Finishing off those hard and uncomfortable bar stools with a stylish set of cushions is the perfect way to tie your room together. The subtle touch of elegance blended together with added comfort will have your friends and family praising you. There are, however, a few points worth considering before making the commitment and choosing a set of cushions poorly.
Perhaps the greatest hurdle when shopping for cushions is find not only a matching size and shape, but to also find a way to securely mount the cushions to the stool seats. Overlook this and you may find your cushions spending more time on the floor. This is partly because of the smallish seat size, the little or no back support, and the raised seat height as well.
Having cushions custom made may well be your best option. The benefits of this approach include being able to use the fabric of your choice, having the cushions themselves sized exactly, the use of a quality “memory” foam, and to have custom mounting straps or skirts installed.
The most ideal method for securing the bar stool cushions to basic backless stools is by the use of stretch skirts. This skirt is simply sewn into the circumference and is stretched down and around the lip of the stool seat for a secure mount. Another option includes having straps sewn into the opposing sides of the cushion. These straps are fed down under the stool and tied, velcroed or snapped together below. The final method is much like the chair pads cushions style for basic kitchen chairs having back supports. Tie straps are sewn into the corners of the cushions to line up with the vertical back spindles to keep the cushion on the chair and off the floor.
Some of these options may be possible to add on to a store bought prefab bar stool cushion, but it would certainly be more practical to have the cushion custom made this way in the first place. Good luck!
